This was never going to be an easy house to build. Unique materials. A complex design. And a tricky site all meant we needed a builder who was up to the task.
When my architect recommended Steve and his team, I knew from looking at his previous work that I’d get a good house. But I didn’t think I would get a house that would go above and beyond all my expectations. Steve didn’t just build a dream. He absolutely made it better.
Steve and his team aren’t just some of the most talented people in the business; they are all – without exception – a genuine pleasure to work with. There was not a single raised voice on my build. We had regular catch ups. They answered all my questions (it was my first build, but they were very patient explaining things to me) and the team-spirit was fun and a pleasure to witness. I put a lot of trust in them, and they returned it every day.
The attention to detail and craftsmanship in this house gives me so much joy. It is a beautiful space and I am so happy here. From the NZIA to viewers on Grand Designs New Zealand (the show featured on TV3 as Episode 3) to family and friends – the response to my house has been overwhelming. I am so proud of it.
If you are thinking of building with Steve and his team, you have already made one of the best decisions of your adventure to come. I’d also like to pass on an open invitation to visit my home, so you can see for yourself the quality of work.
Steve Haycock and his team deserve the recognition for the Gold Award received for the quality of construction and finish detail for our beach house at Omaha. They also deserve an award from us as first time home builders for the whole experience. Through ground breaking, design changes and creative modifications on the fly to follow up post construction the whole journey has been an absolute pleasure. Nothing was ever a problem, we were kept up to date and even the Architects commented how positive the relationship was with Steve and his team. We are proud to let Steve show our/his finished product to prospective clients as a thank you and reflection of the outstanding work he created for us. Reno and Dennise Wijnstok
"Building a home is a difficult challenge for anyone, building a complex home when you are on the other side of the world in the United Kingdom for the first six months of the build is a real challenge. Friends told us that we must be mad but having a contractor with great skill and an understanding that it is your home – not just a house – is a rare find and with Steve Haycock and his team we felt truly blessed. From day one of a 12 month build with the amazing Mike Ingham running the site, we knew we were in good and caring hands. I (Bernard) have built many major high quality retail projects around the word and am very demanding on standards. It is not often I can say that something has exceeded my standards – however, our new home has. We had no cross words, because Steve and the team gave no reason to have any arguments, they were always on the front foot, inventive, precise and nothing was too much trouble. Building a very modern home is unforgiving and there is no hiding place for poor workmanship and Mike will not tolerate a hint of poor workmanship – building to him is not a job, it's a vocation. We have the most amazing home and we owe Steve, Mike and the entire team a big thank you for giving us a piece of heaven on the waterfront. If anyone wants a personal recommendation on Steve Haycock Construction, we would be delighted to do so". Bernard & Judi Dooling
The remodelling of our 20 year old family bach took nearly a year to complete yet it was a positive and stress free experience thanks to the professionalism of Steve Haycock and foreman Phil Isted. Their depth of building knowledge, quality of workmanship and excellent communication were the key factors. I knew they always had my best interests at heart whether it was adjusting the plans to gain better views or changing materials to keep costs down. There were many decisions to make and Steve would say "this is what I would do if this was my place". That made it easy. Steve, Phil and their teams expertise and attention to detail are evident in every aspect of our house and contribute hugely to our enjoyment of living here. Ena Hutchinson
After interviewing three builders, it was a easy decision to engage Steve Haycock Construction to build our house at Omaha. Steve and his foreman, Mike Ingham, were great to deal with. There was a lot of consultation. They were pleasant, courteous and always willing to take time to talk through any aspect of the build. No problem was too big or small to deal with. There were some complex details in our house and not only were they eager to take on the challenges, they delivered an outstanding result. Steve is highly organised with strong project management skills. Steve project managed the build with our architect, Matt Fitzgerald of Ponting Fitzgerald. They were both professional and respectful of each other. When problems arose during the building process (as inevitably happens) they worked collaboratively to offer up the best solutions or options to deal with issues. Steve provided a timeline for the build prior to starting. Apart from a delay that was beyond his control, it was remarkably accurate. The timeline was a useful tool for us to moderate our expectations and give us an idea of the stages of the building process. We have ended up with a beautiful house that has been built with great care by builders who take pride in their workmanship. We were pleasantly surprised at the end of the build to realise what a relatively stress-free process it had been. We highly recommend Steve Haycock Construction to anyone planning to build in the Rodney area. Delcia Blackledge and Glenn Joblin
Steve Haycock Construction recently built a house for us at Ti Point, Matakana. Throughout the build we found Steve and his Foreman, Mike Ingham, very co-operative and helpful. It was never any trouble when we had concerns or questions. They were always available to discuss and work through any problems or queries we had. The workmanship was of a very high standard. All the staff were very helpful and courteous at all times. We would have no hesitation in recommending Steve and his team. Regards Alan & Dianne Wallace
Working with Steve Haycock to build our family beach house has been an excellent experience and we couldn't be more pleased with the results. Steve was always professional and a pleasure to deal with through the whole process. His team of builders were a great skilled group of guys and the whole process went very smoothly. The level of finish in the home is excellent and we are thrilled with the house. We would not hesitate in recommending Steve whole heartedly for building your home. David Bailey
When we embarked on building our new beach house it was with some trepidation. Whilst we had completed renovations previously, we had never built from scratch and it was a big undertaking. This was going to be our dream home - part of the 10 year plan. We had put hours of our heart and soul into the design and preparation and wanted to know the finished home would meet our expectations. I remember meeting Steve Haycock for the first time at our architects office and one of the first things he said was " I want you to enjoy the building process - seeing your house come to life", and he lived up to those words. Through our own interest we were involved in the build on a regular basis attending site meetings and involved in decisions along the way. I was impressed with the way Steve and Mike (the foreman) interacted with us and our architects, making practical recommendations along the way. When on site we observed the way the team worked together and took pride in their work. Steve and Mike's attention to detail was outstanding. We felt they treated it as their house - not just a job. It was reassuring to be kept informed on progress and costs along the way and we always felt under control. At the end of the day we are absolutely happy with the house . Steve delivered the finished house exactly how we had imagined - our dream fulfilled. Graeme and Mary Pinfold
